The mechanical difference between a split and a window air conditioner is where the compressor sits. A window unit packs the compressor, condenser and fan into one box that sits inside a hole cut to the unit's own size in your wall or window frame.
A split unit moves the compressor outside into its own casing, connected to a wall-mounted indoor unit by a small pipe run through a hole a few centimetres wide. That's the whole mechanical story.
But the choice on Zamil's own shelf right now isn't the even split the question implies: looking at the window air conditioners currently in stock on zamilac.com today, there is only one model against four split ACs spanning four capacities. This guide compares the real prices, running costs and stock status for every model available today, not the general claim about split versus window.

Every model above carries a two-year warranty. Running cost is calculated on Saudi Arabia's residential electricity tariff, 18 halalas per kWh in the first consumption tier; a household that reaches a higher tier pays more per kWh than this table assumes. Two more window AC models exist on the site but are both out of stock as of this writing: the Zamil Oasis Window 2 Ton (SAR 1,299) and the Cooline Windows AC 17,200 BTU (SAR 1,299). That leaves buyers with exactly one window AC to actually choose from today, against a split lineup spread across four capacities from 1 to 2.5 tons.
A window AC's compressor, fan and condenser all sit inside one box in the wall opening, which means the noisiest, hottest-running part of the machine is right next to the room, and the whole unit has to fit whatever the wall opening allows rather than the optimal size for either the indoor or outdoor side.
A split air conditioner separates the two: the indoor unit is just a fan and coil, small and quiet, while the compressor sits outside in its own casing, sized on its own terms. That's also why a split installation needs only a small pipe hole rather than a wall-sized cut.
The four in-stock split models above all use less electricity per year than the one in-stock window model, but that comparison is not purely about the enclosure. The window model in stock right now (Cooline, 18,000 BTU) is a regular, non-inverter compressor; three of the four in-stock split models are inverter.
The one split model that would isolate the enclosure question, a regular (non-inverter) split at 18,000 BTU, exists in Zamil's catalogue (Cooline PRO 18,100 BTU, energy rating B, 4,456 kWh a year) but is currently out of stock. So the numbers below show what buying split instead of window actually costs today, not a clean test of split versus window with the compressor generation held constant.
At 18,000 BTU (1.5 tons), a window and a split model are both in stock, which makes this the only same-for-same comparison the current lineup actually supports. The Cooline window AC costs SAR 1,099 to buy and uses 6,981 kWh a year, SAR 1,257 a year at the residential tariff's first tier. The Zamil Oasis Inverter split AC costs SAR 2,199 to buy, SAR 1,100 more, and uses 3,952 kWh a year, SAR 711 a year to run.
That's a SAR 546 running-cost saving every year by choosing the split model, which pays back the SAR 1,100 higher purchase price in about two years, and keeps saving for as long as you run the unit after that.
Over ten years, the window AC costs SAR 13,669 to buy and run against SAR 9,309 for the split, a SAR 4,360 gap. As the previous section notes, part of that gap is the inverter compressor in the split model, not the enclosure alone, so treat this as the real cost of the choice available today rather than a permanent rule about split versus window as system types.
RENTING, OR NO WALL SPACE FOR AN OUTDOOR UNIT
A split system needs a place outside, a balcony, a ledge or a wall bracket, for its outdoor unit. If your building doesn't allow drilling or mounting on the exterior wall, or you're renting and can't make that change, a window AC that only needs the existing window opening is the workable option, not a compromise.
A ROOM USED BRIEFLY OR OCCASIONALLY
A guest room or majlis used a few hours a week doesn't run long enough for a split's lower running cost to offset its higher purchase price within a reasonable time. The lower entry price of a window AC is the more defensible choice for that kind of use. ROOMS RUN MORE THAN 6 HOURS A DAY
Bedrooms and living rooms used daily for long stretches are where the running-cost gap shown above compounds fastest, and where the quieter indoor unit matters most for sleep. If the room qualifies and your building allows an outdoor unit, split is the better buy on both counts.
YOU WANT THE WIDER CHOICE OF CAPACITIES

Whichever type you choose, buy the capacity your room needs, not the one that happens to fit an opening. Calculate your room's area first, length in metres multiplied by width, or calculate the right AC capacity for your room directly. A rough rule: 1 ton per 20 sqm, so 1.5 tons up to 30 sqm and 2 tons up to 40 sqm. A window AC's box size constrains this more than a split's does, since the whole unit has to fit one opening; check the capacity math before you settle on a wall or window slot.
THE FORMULA
Multiply the annual consumption in kWh, published on the product page, by SAR 0.18. The Cooline window AC's 6,981 kWh comes to SAR 1,257 a year, about SAR 105 a month averaged across the year, more in summer. The Zamil Oasis Inverter split's 3,952 kWh comes to SAR 711 a year, about SAR 59 a month on the same math.
IF THE ANNUAL CONSUMPTION ISN'T PUBLISHED
Ask the seller for it before you buy. The purchase price alone tells you nothing about what the unit will cost to run, and across a ten-year lifespan the running cost is usually the larger share of the total, not the smaller one.
